Since the age of seven, Maria Lourdes Aragon has been posting videos of numerous music covers on Youtube. Only a day after posting her 72nd video – a cover of Lady Gaga’s “Born This Way|” – Maria caught the eye of the Fame Monster herself. On March 3rd, 2011 Maria and Lady Gaga performed a duet of the popular hit; not once, but twice for a sold out concert of over 20,000 screaming fans in Toronto.
Since then, the 10 year old has caught the attention of fans worldwide. The video that now has over 34 million hits have lead her to make appearances on “The Ellen DeGeneres Show” in Los Angeles, “Good Morning America” in New York, “L’Univers” in Montreal, and a TV Show in Germany. Maria has been featured on Filipino Channels such as ABS CBN and GMA. She has also done interviews for various countries and has been featured on the front page of local and national newspapers several times. Maria also took part in a photo shoot for the Children’s Fall Collection of Ralph Lauren and has recently shot a commercial, scheduled to air in the USA later this month.
Maria has had the pleasure of meeting and singing for celebrities and important people. This list includes Piolo Pascual (Filipino celebrity), Lea Salonga (Filipino celebrity/Broadway artist), Cindy Klassen (Canadian Olympic Speed Skater), Gary Doer (Canadian Embassador to the United States) and Mr. Stephen Harper (Prime Minister of Canada). She has performed in front of local schools, various charities, and has had the great opportunity of being able to sing the National Anthem for the Manitoba Moose. Maria was nominated for an MTV O Award under the category of “Best Fan Cover.” She was also a Special Guest for the 17th Annual Gala Awards Dinner for APAICS (Asian Pacific American Institute for Congressional Studies) in Washington, D.C.
Maria was born and raised in Winnipeg, Manitoba. Her parents and siblings immigrated to Canada from the Philippines almost 14 years ago. She is a fifth grade student of Isaac Brock School. Her favourite subject is Spelling, and she loves Art. She is smart, funny, very family-oriented, friendly and kind. She is the youngest of four children, and her passion for music is heavily influenced by her father. In fact, she learned how to read through karaoke. Regardless of what has already happened, Maria’s journey has only begun. And it continues..
Maria loves to perform and enjoys meeting people from different places. She is humbled by the experiences and is grateful for the blessings.
